Museum of the Bible Opens Construction and Conversations

Posted on October 8, 2014 by .BIBLE Registry Categories: Online Presence, Social Media

As construction begins for the Museum of the Bible in Washington DC, there’s been a recent flurry of mainstream media coverage about this significant project, propagating from the 2 syndicated news articles from Reuters and Religion News Service:

Beyond these 2 articles getting syndicated at news sites like Washington Post, Huffington Post, USA Today, and elsewhere, the news has also sparked other conversations. The GetReligion article, Planned Bible museum gets an intelligent, literate look from WaPo, mentioned the Washington Post article by Michelle Boorstein, Hobby Lobby’s Steve Green has big plans for his Bible museum in Washington—that has over 1200+ comments (at the time of this post).

As it is with the Bible, there are many perspectives about the meaning, significance, and interpretation of the Bible that stirs up conversations and even some controversies. The Museum of the Bible is anticipated to open in 2017. The vision is very simply stated (from the official website’s about section):

“We exist to invite all people to engage with the Bible. We do this through museum exhibits and scholarly pursuits. In 2017, Museum of the Bible will open its 430,000-square-foot nonprofit museum in Washington, D.C., located just two blocks from the National Mall and three blocks from the Capitol. As of 2014, our traveling exhibits have visited five U.S. cities and three other countries, with new exhibits and locations continually being planned. We support scholarship and academic research through the Green Scholars Initiative and through development of a high school Bible curriculum for domestic and international use.”

The best picture I’ve found that shows how this museum will be an engaging and interactive experience with the Bible is this artist’s rendition from the DeMoss press releases archives, where on-going news about the Museum of the Bible are posted at demoss.com/newsrooms/museumofthebible :

And the official website for the museum at museumofthebible.org has more information about its vision, its board and leadership, how to get involved, and social media links:
